Community Shares
We’d like to again thank everyone who has donated to our community share so far this season! Your contributions mean so much and helps us to get produce to those who might not have it readily available. There is no doubt our current food system is broken, with Chicago containing food apartheid and community neglect. Though it may play only a small part in aiding our neighborhoods by distributing fresh produce and access to local food, we’re here to do it. Below are a few well established organizations in Chicago that we love and plan to partner with. Feel free to contribute time or money to these groups directly as well, they are doing awesome work!
If you are experiencing food scarcity or insecurity do not hesitate to reach out to one of these organizations. They exist to help. Signing up for grocery delivery is simple and accessible.
FOOD NOT BOMBS- One of many chapters across Illinois accepting produce from grocery stores or donations and redistributing them to people in need. You can volunteer or donate.
LOGAN SQUARE MUTUAL AID- Another local Chicago organization dedicated to building strong social relations in order to make sure everyone is getting what they need. Their services include grocery delivery, elderly check in's as well as prescription aide.
WEST HUMBOLDT PARK FARMERS' MARKET- In operation for 9 years, and run solely by Ms. Nita Hailey-Gamble, this market offers one of the few opportunities to get fresh produce to the neighborhood. They are currently running a GoFundMe to support their 2021 Farmers' Market, which you can support here!
In addition, with the help of many state organizations, including Illinois Stewardship Alliance, the Healthy Local Food Initiative Fund just recently was approved for the state budget! This helps folks who utilize SNAP/Link for grocery shopping, because now Illinois can match every SNAP/Link dollar spent on locally grown produce at Farmers' Market this year. That is a huge win for folks eating food and farmers alike!!
